POSITION: Merchandising Manager   

POSITION DUTIES: Responsible for managing assigned product categories within Business Development Group daily to ensure each item performs according to the financial goals set by senior management. Work closely with Store Operations, Marketing, and other support groups on a regular basis to optimize sales initiative for the assigned product category and further enhance customer satisfaction. Control and monitor the stores’ daily inventory according to retail sales, customer demand, and current market conditions. Perform weekly floor walks with other store managers and supervisors to find out product movement and contribution, needs and desires of the customers. Plan and develop procedures to ensure product success in each store. Monitor the manner of purchasing and receiving of merchandise to ensure that the company’s procedures and policies are properly followed. Coordinate with Marketing in researching current market conditions to determine present and future product availability. Monitor daily sales and gross margin reports according to lists of products sold. Monitor the stores’ budgets to direct receiving and purchasing departments to meet customer expectations and profitable merchandise for retail sales in the supermarket. Prepare daily reports concerning market conditions and its effects on product costs and demand in the marketplace. Responsible for hiring, training, and firing of Category Management Specialists, Merchandisers, and Order Analysts. Evaluate the performance of stockers and discuss with Store Managers on steps to be taken for food product success in the store. Oversee performance of receiving and purchasing managers to ensure that products received into inventory meet proper quality and freshness standards and understand the need and demand for a particular product in the market. Evaluate records of goods ordered, purchased, and received according to store needs. Responsible for the training and supervision of inventory clerks, instructing them on procedures for organizing and monitoring inventory supplies. Review and discuss financial performance, i.e., gross profit, with respective area and store managers and provide direction and support to achieve proper financial success based on product sales. Set and monitor the delivery of financial goals of the unit. Ensure regular and timely attendance in compliance with company policy.

Established in 1989, Seafood City is a U.S.-based chain of full-service supermarkets with 28 locations across the United States. We specialize in Filipino food and products, while offering a growing selection of imported Asian goods and North American staples. Each store contains a food court, which offers a variety of freshly prepared Filipino dishes. 

Seafood City launched its first Canadian store in Mississauga, Ontario, in 2017. Due to its resounding success, Seafood City has opened additional locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Calgary Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, and Scarborough, Ontario.

To support the continued growth and success of our Mississauga store, Seafood City Supermarket is looking for one (1) experienced Meat Cutter to join our team.  You will be working at our Mississauga store, located at 800 Boyer Boulevard, Mississauga, Ontario, L5V 2Y1, Canada.

This is a permanent, full-time position, based on 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime.  Further information about the position is below.


Position

You will be responsible for preparing standard and specialty cuts of meat for display and sale in our supermarket.  Your duties will include the following: 

  • Participate in training of new meat cutters;
  • Cut, trim, de-bone, slice, and grind meats according to company and customer specifications;
  • Prepare special cuts of meat preferred by Filipino and other Asian consumers, such as Adobo Cut, Cross-cut Bulalo, Bopis, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, Lechon Kawali, Pork Long Feet, Pork Ham Leg, and Filipino Carne Asada;
  • Respond to customer inquiries and make product recommendations;
  • Prepare marinades using specific Filipino and Asian ingredients, and marinade meats according to size and cut of meat;
  • Operate and maintain meat-cutting tools (e.g. knives) and equipment (e.g. band saw, meat grinder, auto-wrapper, temperature-controlled display racks) in accordance with safety and sanitation standards;
  • Observe strict food safety standards and regulations in the thawing, handling, preparation and processing of meat products;
  • Monitor quality of meat products received from suppliers to ensure it meets company specifications, and notify Department Supervisor of any concerns.
  • Arrange cuts of meat in display cases, rotate products, and restock as required to meet customer needs;
  • Clean and sanitize work area and equipment in accordance with health and safety standards and regulations; and

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who can meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school;
  • At least three (3) years of experience in butchering, handling, processing and packing of meat products;
  • Knowledge of distinct Filipino and Asian cuts of meat such as Adobo Cut, Cross-cut Bulalo, Bopis, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, Lechon Kawali, Pork Long Feet, Pork Ham Leg, and Filipino Carne Asada;
  • Experience using meat cutting equipment, such as a band saw, grinder, and slicer;
  • Manual dexterity for cutting and trimming;
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs independently, or up to 75lbs with assistance; and
  • Basic ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).

Compensation 

We offer a competitive compensation package, which includes the following: 

  • Wage: $18.00 per hour, based on 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week (wages are subject to periodic and incremental raises)
  • Overtime Rate: $27.00 per hour, after 44 hours per week
  • 10 days of vacation per year
  • Roundtrip transportation costs for out of province applicants
  • Private health care insurance coverage for out of province applicants (equal to the Ontario provincial health insurance plan) until such a time that the applicant is eligible for Ontario provincial health insurance.

  • Prepare special cuts of fish for use in Filipino dishes such as Dinaing na Bangus, Relyenong Bangus, and Sisig na Bangus;
  • Respond to customer inquiries, and make product recommendations;
  • Prepare ready-to-cook fish and seafood dishes for purchase using Filipino and Asian seasonings;
  • Operate and maintain cutting tools (e.g. cleavers, knives, and bandsaw) and cleaning equipment (e.g. water hoses and valves, scale removers, and auto cleaners) in accordance with safety and sanitation standards;
  • Observe strict food safety standards and regulations in the thawing, handling, preparation and processing of fish and seafood products;
  • Assist with seafood deliveries by transferring, stocking and organizing products inside walk-in cooler and freezers.
  • Clean, cut, trim, de-bone, fillet and butterfly large fish and seafood carcasses according to company and customer specifications;
  • Arrange fish and seafood in display cases, rotate products, and restock as required to meet customer needs;
  • Clean and sanitize work area and equipment in accordance with health and safety standards and regulations; and

Qualifications 

We are looking for candidates who can meet the following minimum requirements: 

  • Completion of secondary school;
  • At least three (3) years of experience cleaning and handling fish and seafood products in a retail setting;
    • At least three (3) years of experience preparing specialty cuts of fish for use in Filipino dishes such as Dinaing na Bangus, Relyenong Bangus, and Sisig na Bangus;
    • Experience using fish cleaning tools, such as knives and de-scalers;
    • Manual dexterity for cutting, filleting and deboning fish;
    • Able to work in cold temperatures for extended periods of time;
    • Able to lift up to 75lbs with assistance on a frequent basis; and
    • Basic ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).
